The first track on Northern Flame was inspired by lighthouse keepers Janet Raby and Beatrice Parkinson, who were keepers of the Plover Scar and Cockersands Lighthouse from 1910-1945 and 1946-1963 respectively.

They 'exemplify good old Lancashire grit' and in 1948 Beatrice Parkinson made the national news as the only female lighthouse keeper in Britain.

The swirling, effected introduction is meant to represent the light coming out of the darkness and the track moves from dark to light and back again, as the waves crash against the rocks at the end of the song.
